What a signpost is How to read this page

A watched question with a line drawn in advance

The threshold was written before the observation existed. That is what stops a state from being argued into place after the fact.

Four states, no probabilities

Observed, emerging, contested, not observed. These are qualitative readings against the threshold. No number is invented here, because an invented number would be the most quotable and least true thing on the page.

It stays alive between revisions

The update condition names what would move the state. A signpost that has stayed quiet is information too, and is published rather than hidden.

Verifiable Autonomous Work Cells

Qualitative signpost review · no probability assigned

Bounded observation

Google released the open A2A protocol with Agent Cards for capability discovery, enterprise authentication and authorization, and explicit task/state handling for long-running, human-in-the-loop work. These are enabling primitives for bounded work cells, but the release provides neither canonical action receipts nor representative outcome and safety-gate results.

Trigger threshold

Move to observed when at least three independent production deployments represent work order, scoped authority, evidence, commit receipt and evaluation result as auditable objects and pass declared net-outcome and safety gates.

Counter-indicator

Protocol publication and partner support demonstrate interface formation, not production reliability, causal receipt integrity, accountable ownership or net business benefit.

Update criterion

Review A2A/MCP specifications and independently documented deployments quarterly; upgrade only on complete control-object coverage plus measured outcomes, and downgrade after repeated authorization or receipt-integrity failures.
