MWITA-NCO-2026-005 · Evidence A · P1
VR goggles offered no pain benefit over the same cartoon on a conventional screen; secondary pointwise adjusted heart-rate estimates favored the screen, while the omnibus longitudinal group interaction and raw change comparisons were null.
What this does not establish
This compares two audiovisual distractions during one injection, not VR versus no distraction or full dental care. It does not establish long-term anxiety, appointment retention, clinical throughput, cost or patient lifetime value; assessors and clinicians were unblinded/different.
Counterevidence & uncertainty
The hypothesized analgesic advantage was null, while the physiological anxiety proxy moved adversely after adjustment; novelty or blocked vision may have raised arousal.
What would change the reading
