MWITA-NCO-2026-012 · Evidence B · P1
Use of a cosmetics virtual-try-on feature was associated with more browsing and a higher purchase rate, with larger sales effects for uncertain products and customers new to the channel/category.
What this does not establish
Session-level AR use is self-selected, raw differences are not causal effects, the market and retailer are undisclosed, and the reported coefficient is model-scale rather than a percentage lift. Sales incidence is not revenue, margin, returns, repeat purchase or welfare; cosmetics fit may not generalize to other categories.
Counterevidence & uncertainty
The average modeled effect was small rather than universal, and gains concentrated where product uncertainty was high; established brands/products and experienced users benefited less.
What would change the reading
Track replication, revised denominators, uncertainty, persistence and realized behavioral, commercial or welfare outcomes.
