MWITA-SG-2026-017 · Evidence A · P1
In a 2025 Chinese randomized trial of 160 university students, eight weeks of team competition, points, leaderboards, feedback and rewards on top of the same watch-app platform and activity goals produced 2,114 more daily steps and 28 more daily minutes of moderate-to-vigorous activity than monitoring alone.
What this does not establish
The study does not isolate leaderboards from rewards, demonstrate post-incentive persistence or establish population-scale health benefit.
Counterevidence & uncertainty
Single-university, open-label design, retrospective trial registration and no postintervention durability assessment constrain inference.
What would change the reading
Update with prospectively registered multiarm replication, post-incentive follow-up and diverse campuses.
